Before there were multi-colored leathers with pretty logos and graphics "real racers" wore racing vests from companies like Bates and others. Many race team members, like the "TT Cycle Race Team" from Rockville, Md and the "Cycles Inc. Race Team" from Arlington, Va, wore these vests over their drab racing leathers.
Former Mid-Atlantic scrambles champion and longtime Bultaco employee Tom Patton, who now lives in sunny California, sent us these pictures of his mid 60's era Falls Church Hobby Center Race Team vest. The Falls Church Hobby Center in Falls Church, Va had been home to some very good Hodaka mounted flat trackers in their early racing careers, names like Tom Patton, Greg Edmonds, Ed Clark, John Lawrence and many others. From left to right are two of those riders, Tom Patton and Greg Edmonds. Greg went on to have a very successful professional racing career and held National #93 for many years. On his Kenny Farmer prepared Triumph he was close to unbeatable at Vista Speedway in Largo, Md.
Thanks very much Tom!
(The others are Bruce Stuart, John Porter and Bob Poitras)
